Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones in the body lose mass and density. Osteoporosis literally means "porous bones." The early stage of osteoporosis is osteopenia. Research indicates that exercise may not only slow bone density loss but may improve bone density.
If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, osteopenia, or have had bone mineral density tests revealing low bone mass then P.T. can help you.
Typical treatment may include:
- Weight bearing and resistive strengthening exercises
- Patient education in correct posture
- Proper body mechanics for daily activities
- Education on fall prevention and personal safety tips
- Manual therapy and modalities as needed for pain relief
- Commitment to an ongoing fitness program
