The entire staff of Columbia Physical Therapy in East Greenbush and Valatie is grateful to our community for choosing us and for referring your family and friends for the past 19 years.
In 1987, we established our first office in East Greenbush and opened in Valatie in 1992. We are both from New York, though knew no one in the Capital Region except two college classmates. Since then, we have befriended so many people from many different neighborhoods who needed physical therapy over the years. After graduating from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse in 1981, we lived in California and gained experience working in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, home care and private practices. We relocated to East Greenbush simply to be between our family in Rochester and Long Island. Boy, did we make the right decision! We chose to live in East Greenbush and made the decision to support the communities that supported us.
Over the past nineteen years, some things in the world of physical therapy and rehabilitation have changed yet the mission we started with has been consistent. Our success has relied on providing quality physical therapy keeping in mind teamwork and community service. Many of our associates also live in the immediate vicinity or grew up here. Our patients praise the staff for being able to combine their professional wisdom and treatments with their compassionate and friendly personalities. It isn't always easy to recover from injuries or surgeries however the shared opinion from our community is that the Columbia Physical Therapy staff takes the extra measures needed to maximize a successful outcome.
When you see a physical therapist (PT) you should expect that the PT take a detailed history of your present condition and of your medical history. A physical examination is performed that will include observing your posture and your movements. A hands-on assessment of your joints, spine and muscles involves the therapist placing their hands on you to palpate joint stiffness or instability or muscle tension and feeling if there are any imbalances or asymmetries. The PT will test your strength, reflexes and sensation. Balance and coordination might be a part of the evaluation. A combination of many clinical tests focused on what your chief complaint is will round out the examination. You should then expect that the PT would explain their findings and with your personalized goals in mind, formulate a plan of care to address your needs.
Physical therapy focuses on relieving pain, restoring function and promoting optimal health. We are very proud of our dedicated staff and are honored that we have served our community since 1987. Please contact me at 286-3990 or at dkfcpt@mac.com. For more information visit www.columbiapt
