Doreen and Bob Frank, along with Columbia Physical Therapy's staff are pleased to announce that Alex Harrison, of Columbia High School is the recipient of a $250 scholarship. Nineteen years ago, Doreen and Bob Frank established their physical therapy practice in East Greenbush, where they reside and followed that with a second office in Valatie.
"Living and working in the same community has been gratifying since we repeatedly hear from neighbors how physical therapy has helped them" explains Doreen Frank. "We offer an annual scholarship besides our other community donations to support the next generation of physical therapists." When you walk into the office, it is clear that community involvement is an important aspect of this clinic. As you enter the corridor leading to the exercise area, there is a "wall of fame" with pictures of softball players, little league teams, Fun Ball plaques and articles about high school athletes who turned to Columbia Physical Therapy.
A high school student is often in the clinic observing to see if a career as a PT is something they would like, as was Alex Harrison. Harrison was chosen based on his scholastic record, his extra-curricular activities and on an essay he submitted regarding why he chose physical therapy as a major. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Harrison was captain of the varsity volleyball team and a varsity tennis player. He has devoted time to teaching tennis to community youth and has participated in service projects. Harrison plans to attend Springfield College where he was accepted into the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program as well as on to the volleyball team. "We've hired physical therapists who were our students or patients in the past so hopefully, Alex will be back here in 6 years ready for employment!" added Bob Frank
