Award named In Physical Therapist's Honor

The New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) held their 2004 Delegate Assembly in Albany recently and named Doreen Frank, physical therapist, to be the first recipient of a newly created award. Named in her honor, the criteria for the Doreen Frank Legislative Award includes demonstrating consistent, outstanding participation in the legislative arena by promoting initiatives thThe New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) held their 2004 Delegate Assembly in Albany recently and named Doreen Frank, physical therapist, to be the first recipient of a newly created award. Named in her honor, the criteria for the Doreen Frank Legislative Award includes demonstrating consistent, outstanding participation in the legislative arena by promoting initiatives that preserve, protect and advance the practice of physical therapy in New York State. According to Mary Gannon, PT, chairperson of the Awards committee, As a result of her tenacity and leadership, NYPTA has become a familiar face to scores of elected officials in the State Legislative arena.

Doreen Frank has been a physical therapist since 1981 and along with her husband, Bob, owns Columbia Physical Therapy, PC in East Greenbush and Valatie. She served as NYPTA legislative committee chairperson from 1992 to 2003. Frank stated, "The most rewarding part of volunteering with the legislative committee was influencing my peers and the patients we serve to take part in the grass roots process of educating legislators about what physical therapy is all about. Physical therapists and their patients from around the state took action whenever we called on them so it made my job easier."
